This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
As an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.
Rumi teaches us to sit through all the emotions that fill our existence. The good and the bad. Learn to go through the ebb and flow of life. Instead of suppressing our emotions, we must learn to integrate and process them. Shutting down parts of how you feel will only lead to more resentment and insecurity down the lane. Especially the painful, ugly ones. Sadness. Anger. Jealousy. Grief. They are there to pave a path of where you still need healing.
Anger is a good emotion. It shows you where your boundaries lie.
Jealousy shines a spotlight on you, highlighting the areas where you feel lack, but also a version of yourself you have not fully stepped into yet.
Grief teaches you acceptance. To understand life is complex and chaotic. There will always be forces out of your control.
Learn to experience life in all its fullness, as each one will teach us something to help us become a more integrated and better version of ourself.
Love,
Wendy
